Difficult to access on account of the legendary Blue Thick, Alleste’s unique soil composition amidst the otherwise uninhabitable north-eastern Aelioanei has for centuries made it a draw for agrarians seeking for a quieter way of life. The village has never developed beyond sustenance agriculture and animal farming, despite a healthy economy produced by the local jade crafters and annual hunting tourism.
Alleste was the birthplace of Slate Ahn, certainly its most famous inhabitant. His return to the village after starting the Moraine Press Operation, which saw the Book of Knowledge propagated for all humanity, was considered by many to be his most important act, in that he opted for the simple life he had come from despite the boon of all knowledge he gave the rest of the world. This move was the basis for the Ahnite religion.
The Pilgrim Trail from South Airyel terminates in Alleste, though most travelers consider the Blue Bridge to be the end of the route. Those few that complete the entire journey can still visit the stone hut Slate Ahn was born and died in, and enjoy fruit from the same trees that he planted after his epic journey. They trip through the Blue Thick is still difficult, but one of Alm’s most rewarding.
